Want vs. Need
Mon, 07/26/2010 - 5:26pm — stephenWe are always told that
we should focus on our needs and less on our wants. In most cases this is true. We might even work on wanting what we
actually need. But as with seemingly
everything there is an exception. There
is an opposite truth that we shouldn’t need much. And some things in particular we shouldn’t
need at all. And yet we should want
them! I come across this through
relationship; intimate relationship to be particular. When you need your significant other, that
puts pressure on them to always be there.
It creates the attachment that can make them feel heavy and
restricted. This is a case where you
should want them completely- be in love with everything they are. But need them, you should not. We should need only the basics: water, food,
shelter, touch, music, work, and purpose.
All other beautiful things should be enjoyed only through wanting them
without need. Just a thought.
God As Time
Tue, 06/22/2010 - 11:08am — stephenJust give
me time
And I’ll
be fine
If I
never see you
Well,
love is blind
God as Time
God is time.
Time is infinite. Infinity is
forever. Forever is created by Time. Time has created itself and yet, while so
obvious, may not even exist. The
opposite of time is simultaneousness.
I’m sure somewhere there exists a pseudo-infinite space where nothing
happens. With time comes space where
things happen and they were born as always being together. Time really is space in itself. As time heals all, it inevitably destroys
all. Time is everywhere; you can feel
it. It takes time to do all things.
SPACE
Tue, 06/22/2010 - 10:39am — stephenSpace! The very word expands the mind.
Hightime.
Rush to
fill the gaps. Why’s that?
It’s
benign.
Take your
time, step back.
We will
all fade to black.
Circle
that, underline this.
Your
place in space is a state of bliss.
It all
comes back to you again.
Don’t
believe it’s a reunion – it never left.
Kin is
kin, us and them
One plus
one equals one again.
Condition
yourself to be unconditioned.
It’ll
help you sit in that funny postion.
Change is
constant, it’s a constant change.
If you
make rules you’re bound to play the game.
Be well
prepared to win and lose.
Booze and
snooze and play the blues.
Major
minor, off-beat timer
Larger
spaces, finer finer.

About David
David Williams has been practicing Yoga daily, without interruption, since 1971. In 1972, David met K. P. Manju , the son of K. Pattabhi Jois, and saw Manju demonstrate the Ashtanga Yoga 1st series. This was at Dr. Swami Gitananda's Ananda Ashram in Pondicherry, South India, where David received his 6 month Yoga teachers training course certification. In 1973, David began studying Ashtanga Yoga with K. Pattabhi Jois at his home in Mysore, India, and became the first non-Indian to be taught the complete Ashtanga Yoga system of asanas and pranayama directly from Jois. David introduced K. Pattabhi Jois and Manju to America and the western world when he, along with Nancy Gilgoff, organized and sponsored their first visit to Encinitas, California, in 1975. David is responsible for teaching the Ashtanga Yoga system to many of today's leading teachers and practitioners, including David Swenson, Doug Swenson, Danny Paradise, Bryan Kest, Jonny Kest, Tracy Rich, Chuck Miller, and Maty Ezraty. David is 60 years old. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has lived on the island of Maui, Hawaii, since l975, and teaches private individual or group classes by appointment.

The low back is frequently injured and even subtle misalignments in the hip can cause major problems up and down the body chain. Join us for an in-depth yoga exploration of these key areas and leave feeling strong, supple and well aligned; ready for the other pursuits you love. Yoga as Therapy
Yoga as Therapy: What physical therapists should know and use from the ancient practice of yoga.
presented by Rebecca Impello, Approved for 10CEU’s by AL PT Board
Course Description - Yoga is an ancient system that has recently become mainstream in the West. Whether for exercise, relaxation or holistic healing almost all of our physical therapy patients lately have either tried yoga or are curious about it. Some of them have even been injured by a yoga pose that was inappropriate for them. Many of them turn to PT’s with questions about starting yoga: what style, what teacher, what about a yoga therapist? This course will educate PT’s on how to answer these questions as well as explore the fundamental principles of yogic breathing and awareness that will enhance any exercise program and promote wellness. We will also spend a significant portion of the course on yoga postures, reviewing those common in popular yoga classes, outlining contraindicated poses for certain conditions, and exploring the therapeutic effects of specific poses for common PT diagnoses. While this course does not aim to create yoga teachers, participants will have a solid understanding of yoga to help guide patients toward the appropriate practice, teacher or yoga therapist and several simple, effective breathing techniques and physical exercises that will augment their current clinical treatments.
Objectives - participants in the course will have an understanding of the following areas.
Different styles of hatha (physical) yoga commonly practiced in the west and the holistic lifestyle practice of yoga that is at the heart of yoga’s roots.
Scientific evidence of yoga’s positive effect on nearly all of the human body’s physiological systems and overall health and wellness.
The emerging field of yoga therapy, including the education and qualifications of yoga therapists and how yoga therapy can complement physical therapy.
Basic breath control and awareness and coordination of breath with movement.
Poses for specific musculoskeletal diagnoses - low back pain, neck pain, shoulder dysfunction, hip dysfunction, sacroiliac pain, scoliosis, and osteoporosis.
Advising patients on poses or practices to avoid or modify in general yoga classes.
About the Presenter - Rebecca Impello received an MS in physical therapy from UAB and has been practicing in outpatient rehab, inpatient rehab and orthopedic outpatient settings for the past ten years. Becca began practicing yoga while in college and began teaching shortly after beginning her professional career. As a fitness and yoga instructor in gyms and studios for over 15 years Becca is familiar with the types of yoga classes available in the community. She is certified as a yoga teacher through YogaFit and has attended numerous additional yoga trainings with both local teachers and internationally known yoga therapists, most recently a conference on the healing power of yoga. She has conducted workshops for physical therapists and yoga teachers on low back issues and anatomy. The practice of physical therapy and knowledge of yoga have progressively merged so that Becca’s treatment of patients almost always includes elements of yoga. She has seen patients benefit enormously from simple yoga techniques and from consistent yoga practice. She feels that an expanded understanding of yoga and how it heals is essential for all health care professionals.
